Pass The Advanced Driving
Test
We can help you to pass the
Advanced Driving Test by showing you what is
expected of you on the test. Our
observers will show you which aspects of your
driving need to be honed in order to reach
test standard. You can then be confident
that when you take your test you will pass.
Assessment Drive.
Mansfield Group offers
FREE assessment drives to anyone who would
like to know if they can achieve the IAM
standards.
The assessments are
conducted by Group Senior Observers covering
similar aspects to the Advanced Test. You will
be debriefed and given a written report which
will point out differences between your
technique and the IAM requirements,
explanation of mistakes made and how to avoid
them, your problem areas and answers to any
queries you may have about the IAM And
Mansfield Group.
How do I prepare for the
Test
You will need to join the
Mansfield Group of Advanced Motorists as an
Associate Member. On paying the subscription
you would be given a short induction course
and an "Associates Pack" containing
details about the Group and Institute. Note
- if you have joined the IAM through the Skill
for Life programme then your associate
membership of Mansfield Group and your test
fee were included in your Skill
for Life package.
Guidance sessions held on
the Sunday following the first Tuesday of
each month; see Diary for full details.
If Associates are unable to
attend the Sunday sessions or they require
more guidance, a list of Observers willing to
give guidance at other mutually convenient
times is available.

Driving Test
About the Test
The Test will include
driving through town, along country lanes,
dual carriageways, motorway and manoeuvring.
Covering some 30 to 40 miles and lasting about
1.5 hours.
The Examiner will look for a number of points
such as use of controls, observation,
concentration, discipline, safety, progress,
car sympathy, road craft and general skill,
including reverse park if practical.
Advanced driving is based on the Police method
of driving which is fully explained in the
HMSO publication "ROADCRAFT".
All IAM Examiners are
qualified Police Class I Drivers which is the
highest standard awarded in Britain.
There are no trick questions
or unusual manoeuvres during the Test. The
Test Standard is for a good, safe, skilful
drive and the Examiner will discuss all
aspects of the Test with the candidate, pass
or fail.
