We wish all our associates well in their ambition to become better and
safer drivers by taking the IAM Test and hope that they
will soon achieve their goal. DO try to attend Guidances
as often as you are able. Don't forget to check the
Alternative Guidance List which is in your Associate's
Pack if, because of other commitments, you can't make
Guidance /Sundays.
In addition DO make sure that you are really familiar
with The System (of car control) which is the basis of
all Advanced Driving and governs WHAT you do and WHEN
you do it for a safe and competent 'test passing'
standard of drive at ALL times. Safe driving and Happy
Guidances, PLUS the reading and learning of How to be an
Advanced Driver.
Sometimes, when on a Guidance, an
Observer may mention: "In Roadcraft . . . ".
The Mansfield Group used to use this manual it is, the
Police Drivers Handbook, then IAM House produced How to
be an Advanced Driver, which is issued to all
Associates.
However, Roadcraft is THE source of information on
Advanced Driving. All our Observers should carry one
with them and may make reference to it on some driving
point or other so, do not hesitate to ask to see the
point being made when you are with them on Guidance.
